Bulten’s climate targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative
2022-04-12 News
We have taken the next step in our efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by setting targets grounded in climate science.
“Sustainability has long been a natural and integral part of our business strategy. Our vision is to be the most sustainable and innovative fastener company around. To get our climate targets verified is important not only to us, but also to our customers, suppliers, employees, and other stakeholders. SBTi's verification of our climate goals is completely in line with our goal of being a leader in our industry from all sustainability aspects.”
Anders Nyström, President and CEO of Bulten.
Our climate targets 2030;
-
Bulten is committed to reduce its absolute GHG emissions from own operations and from bought energy (Scope 1 and 2) by 30% to 2030 compared with 2019. This target is consistent with reductions required to keep global warming to well-below 2°C.
-
Bulten is also committed to reduce GHG emissions from its supply chain (Scope 3) by 25% per ton of sold product within the same timeframe, which means that they are in line with current best practice.
What is science based targets?
Science-based targets are emissions reduction targets in line with what the latest climate science says is needed to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement – to limit global warming to well-below 2°C , preferably to 1.5°C, compared to pre-industrial level.
Why does it matter?
Galvanized by the historic Paris Agreement, the transition to a zero-carbon economy is underway and accelerating globally. Many corporations worldwide are preparing for the transition by setting emissions reduction targets grounded in climate science. The latest science has made it clear that more needs to be done – and faster – in order to avoid the worst impacts of climate change and secure a thriving, sustainable economy. The next few years are critical, and companies have a vital role to play in helping achieve transformation at the pace and scale that is needed. Businesses taking science-based climate action benefit from greater opportunities for innovation, strengthened investor confidence and improved competitiveness.
