Our sustainable operations

Sustainability is what we do every day

At Bulten, sustainability is connected to everything we do, and it is incorporated into the daily work at all levels.

Our climate roadmap

Bulten’s target is to reduce emissions by 30% in 2030 compared to 2019 – the year we first adopted the SBTi approach. This will also enable our customers to reach their sustainability targets.

We’re increasing our use of renewable energy

Since 2016, we have been committed to using renewable electricity in our production plants. In 2021, we reached a significant milestone by achieving 100% renewable electricity for our purchased power in Europe and North America, four years ahead of schedule. Since 2024, efforts have also been underway in China to purchase renewable electricity to the greatest extent possible.

Looking forward, we will generate more of our own electricity through solar panels and other renewable technologies. Additionally, we are replacing natural gas with fossil-free energy sources. By 2030, our Asian factories will also be supplied with fossil-free electricity.

The goal is a circular future

We believe that circularity and resource efficiency are essential for a sustainable future. But efficient resource use also makes sense economically. That’s why we’re optimizing our use of raw materials, energy, and water and improving our waste management practices. Our primary raw material is steel, which benefits from an existing circular process where we reuse scrap steel whenever possible without compromising quality.

Safety always comes first

At Bulten, our people matter most. Our zero-vision for workplace accidents guides our safety efforts, ensuring that all employees, contractors, and anyone working in our facilities are protected.

We are dedicated to promoting well-being and preventing accidents and ill health in our workplaces. Our health and safety work covers both the physical and organizational working environments. We also strive to prevent discrimination, as reflected in our code of conduct, HR policy, and health and safety policy. Bulten keeps track of these areas through annual development dialogues between managers and employees and our employee engagement survey.

We’re making sustainable investments

To ensure that our factories and investments lead to a sustainable future from an environmental and work environment perspective, we work systematically with Sustainable Return on Investment (SRoI). This means we include information on the environment, greenhouse gases, and occupational health and safety in investment requests.
